Hunny Bunny Pattern

I made a couple.... my fantasy of 20 bunny's hopping around the house this week was just that.. fantasy. But what I did manage to do (just in time for last minute Easter crafting) was slap together a pattern for you to download.Yah!

Join in the fun with Nest Studio as they share exciting picture books, paint with beautiful watercolours and play games as imaginative as they are educational.

Following the philosophy of their weekly classes these wonderfully creative sessions are sure to be enjoyed by all.

Amazing books by author/illustrators such as Herve Tullet, Jon Klassen and Chris Haughton will inspire the creation of gorgeous watercolour paintings for each child to take home.

Sessions approximately every half-hour from 9am to 3pm. Maximum 20 children per session.

Heart bomb

UPDATE 15/02/12 Last week in the studio the children were painting with beautiful warm colours and so it was the perfect opportunity to cut a little heart shape out of the corner of each childs art to bomb our local neighbourhood with ...

Tali and I snuck around quite late at night sticking little love hearts onto places children might find them ... like around school crossings and school gates.. we had so much fun.. I wonder who found one? Each heart said LOVE FROM who ever painted the heart... It was the best Valentines Day Eve I've had in forever.

What I was saying was .... what a fantastic summer we have had .. sandy beaches, fish and chips, jumping in the surf and now ... now we are ready for a fun filled term of painting in the studio... it's amazing what a bit of salt water and fresh sea breaze can do (other than make your hair very crusty & curly!)

If you are in Stepney on Saturday.. do pop in! I will be sharing the paints and pretty watercolour paper all around (make sure you say hi, don't be shy!)

Art I found in the studio this week

These artworks were all inspired by books & illustrators that the children love... The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister, Hubert Horatio by Lauren Child & The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson. I love to teach with excellent picture books because the art in them is fabulous .. yes?

These are some patterns I found in the studio last week ... all from practicing to draw with pen after listening to Aranea by Jenny Wagner and looking at Ron Brooks' beautiful illustrations.

I wonder what I will find next time I wizz around the studio with my camera...

What a gorgeous start to term 3! Still life collage would have to be one of my favourite classes that the children do here at the studio. We use left over paints from term 1&2 to create Carlesque papers ...instead of washing paint  down the sink .. I love this kind of upcycling! especially in art making .. we really like to keep our waste to a minimum at the studio. I did a blog post about this years ago.. see it here. (wow! 2006.. that brings back memories)

Speaking of Eric Carle .. story teller and collage artist extrordinaire.. this post about his book "Do you want to be my friend?" is so very sweet.

 

Screenprinting workshop at Nest Studio

Take a look at what my lovely talented ladies printed up in my last screenprinting workshop at the studio. I've been meaning to share some pics with you for weeks ...

We had so much fun ... designing from scratch (and these ladies are beginners too!) getting a little messy with ink .. yummy lunch at the very suave My Friend Louis.. and finally showing off gorgeous designs fit for any cushion, skirt or lampshade.

I am going to be hosting another screenprinting workshop really soon (Sunday August 14) it's sure to be a super day.. (if you are keen you can book in online)

One of the wonders & I think priveledges of being a teacher, to children and adults alike, is watching their ideas come to life and learning from their different approaches to the task. So with that in mind I am really looking forward to sharing all my screenprinting tips with a new bunch of ladies for a lovely Sunday afternoon.

I printed up some more of my Rosehip fabric this week in shimmery Gold, Terracotta & Lily White on organic natural hemp/cotton...

Some colour in my life

This here wave of colour greets me every morning as I arrive at work. It has been created by four artists (Dan, Peter, Sam & Kate) who recently exhibited at AP Bond Gallery (this being the wall outside the gallery)

Chris helped me take photos of me with the girls today... not something I am a big fan of... (me in photos or Chris taking them!)but I have to, for a book contribution .. this is all three of us reading in the girls bedroom .. trying to all look happy and like we can read.. and keep our eyes open, mouths shut and knees together... oh dear... sit up straight, lean forward ..no back.. to the side ... your other side!

Lily is missing her two front teeth which makes smiling even more tricky.. and then the first 250 photos were all blurry so we had to do it all over again..

We survived ..and almost with out screaming at each other ..aahhh family.

Thanks to Flourish & Blume who have recently reupholstered a beautiful vintage chair in our Umbrella Prints' Grand Hearts, (in Kimono Red) they featured on Design Sponge.

The first two photos above are from 2009 when the Grand Hearts were first introduced and the last pic is by Flourish & Blume 2011. A timeless design.

 

In the studio tonight

It's catch 22 having the studio away from home... in years past when my office and studio were at home I worked far too much... the lure of the art materials and computer were too much. For the past 18 months I have been thoroughly enjoying spending my time at home....sans studio, pottering around, playing with the kids, a spot of sewing...but what happens if I get a sudden burst of inspiration? all my 'stuff' is a 15 minute drive away..

Well tonight I simply hopped into the car, drove a few minutes around the park lands, opened up the shop, cranked up some tunes (nice and loud) and started working on a new fabric design. It's nice and quiet in here....

~~~UPDATE~~~~ I made this... you can never go wrong with red and pink!

Looky what I did... I used every inch of my brain setting up a Facebook page for the shop... boy sometimes I am just very hopeless with technologicy things like FB. But it looks like it could be a great way to let you know when I get delicious new things in the shop.. like Elks new NZ sheep leather purses and glass beads.

I was thinking it would be cool to do a bit of a giveaway ...
