Vanilla rose

Cupcakes

There couldn't be a better way to cheer ourselves up than with a butter cream frosted cupcake.

I had this great idea to make rose butter cream frosting for the vanilla bean cupcake but ..... it tasted odd... there was a foreign object floating in the rose water bottle ...ewe! We settled on vanilla vanilla cupcakes instead (with a hint of rose colouring + Lily sprinkles).

Move over yoghurt shops!! I think I might get this book and I am totally hooked on this blog.... and this is what I would love my next cupcake to look like... (see lemon drop) I love the soft serve icecream look, how do they get the butter cream so velvety?... I am slightly (only very slightly) worried about all the butter and sugar... so I would like to find some tiny minature cupcake pattypans... that should solve the guilt factor. Someone should open a cupcake shop here in Adelaide so that I don't have to bake an entire batch...

Have a lovely Sunday afternoon.

One of those weeks

Scrap_paper_2

I heart scrap paper, especially this project here... I was so inspired here (I have this print, so so sweet)that I got out my papers too. I had much fun playing with my paper (not for the project just for fun), I have used exactly the same 'cut the shape' and construct method as I do with my fabric and toys.....except this character has come to life with just a little bit of pen.... no sewing needed. .... so much satisfaction in relatively little time....

That brings me to my 'one of those weeks' grumble... (before I start whining, let me thank all of those who gave me fantastic advice and tips for the wacom ... I am slowly getting the hang of it). So it all started with rocking up to my own art class an hour early, i have taught for over two years at the SAME time every week... I waited for almost an hour before I gave up and went home upset that no one came ... of course plenty of people came but at the correct time, an hour later. That was last Monday, then on Thursday I backed into our roller door!! what? I could have sworn the door was infact up... Knowing bad luck comes in threes I was bracing myself for the next crazy thing I could do..... which I thought was definately going to a doctors appointment on time but two weeks early!! and it was one where you fast for 12 hours... so the good thing was I went out and got breakfast....... but no that wasn't the silliest thing I could have done that week....  it was spilling my coffee on ... yes! my laptop!! Can one person really be that ditzy all in the space of 7 days? So I have been off line for a few days connecting up my new laptop... which has a 5 metre NO LIQUID zone around it now.... I am a good three days behind in work... so no shop updates or DIY fair. The shop update will now be this time next week.... but I will let you know if you are on the update list.

I think it's weeks like that where you think, someone is trying to tell me something... slow down! I promise I won't do another whinge post for a very long time.... we won't even get me started on Moopy's sleeping pattern....or lack there of.

Little bit of this and that

Poster

Working on a new poster for Nest Studio art classes and as you can see, in the meantime I procrastinated a little by making a new banner for Autumn.......

I would like to work on the banner some more using the technique I am doing for the children's book... Up there you can see the pen sketch that I then "coloured in" ... I bought a new WACOM tablet a couple of weeks ago but sadly I don't really like it... I just can't get away from my pencils and paper... I will keep practicing... it is like learning to draw all over again?? I'll be blowed if I waste those few hundred bucks!! Any tips...

Owl

I am also working on having this owl pattern ready for sale early next week, it includes two pieces of vintage fabric in assorted patterns/colours. I must admit I did manage to use the WACOM for drawing up the pattern and my new NESThandmade logo... see it up there..

That's it, back to work.

Long and the short

Peek

A peak at a recent little contribution made to a new pattern book being published here in Australia

Longhair

The day had finally come, where brushing through all the knots became too much for everyone... you are looking at almost three and a half years of Moopy's hair..... and now...

Shorthair

Anyone who can sit through a fourty minute haircut deserves gelato!

Melrose

Again, anyone who can sit for a three hour drive with mummy to visit a new client deserves an icecream.

The Adelaide Fringe Festival is back this year, I am going to hangout for a while at the DIY fair with some toy patterns .... I might even do some sewing ... for those of you here in Adelaide, I will keep you posted.
