Garden of heavenly delights

Fringe06_logo_home_1

Picture this, fairy lights and lanterns dangling from the trees, acrobats flying through the sky, three performance tents, plenty of free outdoor shinanigans, people wandering around in there quirky costumes.. you know the ones .. black and white stripes, bowler hat and red lipstick... oh and did I mention the carousel... Moopy did! about one hundred times.. she had such a magical evening.. and it was magic watching her truely enjoy herself... I only wish that she could remember these times.

Lily and I got up bright and early to check out some of the visual art exhibitions, only I forgot my camera on both occassions, not to worry, the Adelaide Fringe festival will be here for a good two weeks... so many photos to come.

My newest obsession

Engel20und20storks_1

Storks! My oma brought one of these adorable ornaments back from her most recent trip to Germany... and then I found a 60's style wooden stork in a thrift shop so here begins a new love affair... maybe some softies, maybe some gocco prints ..we'll see....

While I couldn't afford these guys I did splurge on this snowdrop (hopefully she will arrive in time for Easter)... Oma tells me I will definately inherit her stalk and other Wendt & Kuhn ornaments..since I am so nuts about them.

We have so much going on in Adelaide at the moment, Fringe, Adelaide Festival, Womadelaide and the Clipsal 500, cars are not my thing but I do like Grinspoon so I might have to go for a few hours (Yes! I loove a bit of geeetar and drum!)

Terry

I found this fun towel at a thrift shop and thought it might be good for my kittens.... it definately looks good but it was really hard to use (lots of friction). Terry is off to the shop for one day and then he is taking a big plane trip to a very generous certain someone..... I hope that she likes him.

Have you seen these? nothing has happened yet, but I am sure the magic will start soon....

I tried out the Denyse Schmidt slippers again today with no luck... I don't have time to try again (mums birthday is tommorrow) so I will pick out something else... or maybe even get her a copy of the book? then she can try out the slippers herself.

Look, more fun mail ... so beautiful, I can't wait to see next months print..

And Lily supervised while we made this today... I am quite impressed with what she picked out... even the rickrack was her personal fave...

In perfect timing for Hillary's new fun blog, I finally have a photo of my awesome thrifted machine! Not that I need a machine older than the one I have, but who could pass this up for $20! Yes crazy I know.... I can't wait to clean it up and see what I can do with it? It might be something to just look at I think (like the millions of other things I drag home much to Chris' horror).

I also have many a thank you to dish out... a big one to the wonderfully kind Karen, for her parcel of the coolest stamps (don't ask me about my embrassing collection! I am a stamp dork ok, something about those tiny pictures, captures me and sparks the collector in me), I happen to teach my students about many of the illustrators who's work appears on the stamps, so that makes them extra special. Camilla is also wonderful.... I now have her calender in the kitchen...and Belinda...cookies that you only see in magazines! and I am the Ahem...Chris rather, is the proud owner of not one but two of Littlest Flower's adorable and striking prints (a valentines pressy from me that has all the benifits of being something I can also look at too)

You can also spy a few fun fabrics there ... speaking of fabwicks (Moopy speak), I asked the Moopy what she would like to do on our mummy/daughter day (wednesday, my day off) and she said "go to fabwick shop to make an apron" I kid you not!!! I was sooooo excited and wisked her off to do just that... she picked out her own fabwicks too... I will show and tell as soon as it is ready.

Other making news: Denyse Schmidt s******s for my ..... well I don't think mum reads my blog too often but just incase I won't say just yet.... but it's for her birthday... I tried to make one today and it didn't fit??? Another crafting/making failure... that's two in two weeks (note last weeks Turkish delight failure which I have yet the courage to try again). I have a theory about this, I suck at following directions... I should just make it up as I go... all my toys are cut free hand, direct to the fabric and seem to work.

And a new bunny to reveal ......

She looks a little concerned doesn't she? You would to if you saw my efforts at making turkish delight for the Afternoon Tea... lets just say..80's hair gel and I think you get the picture.

I finally got a chance to check out Denyse Schmidt's newish quilt book... and was inspired to make a patchwork teddy. It was the most fun I have had in ages cutting out fabric and mix and matching the placement of pieces.

And now for something silly.... I have been tagged by Fiona for Four Things

Four Places I have worked: Cashier for Toys R Us amongst many other shops, waitress for an Irish pub, graphic designer, primary school teacher.

Four movies I can watch over & over : Love actually, Moonstruck, City of lost children etc... & home movies of Lily (does that count?)

Four place I have lived: Mt Gambier, Adelaide, Beaverton OR (for a short time while teaching) & Cairns (again shortly while teaching).

Four TV shows I like to watch: Desperate housewives, Ab Fab, Australian biggest loser & Bread.

Four places I have been on holiday: Byron Bay, Apollo Bay, Coogi Beach & Falls Creek ( and many more Australian ski mountains)

Four of my favourite dishes: Chris' parmy, Barrossa shop sausages and mash, any of Omas cooking (yummy German food) and Chris' mums sticky date pud. If you could make freshly baked cookies a dish that would be top of the list.

Four websites I visit daily: I don't get a chance to look daily but when I do I am lost for hours checking out other peoples favourite link lists... thats called lazy! I really need to update my links list.

Four places I would rather be now: Having a delic. breaky with Lily & Chris at Tin Cat Cafe, at the pub with girlfriends and a pint of pale, with a big wad of cash in the worlds best book and fabric store & on an east coast beach (less sharks and calmer waters) watching Chris surf and Lily play while I read that pile of craft books I bought from that 'worlds best book shop'.

I think I am the last one to be tagged? if not, your tagged!

Sneak Peak

Bunny_and_girls2

You are getting a very special preview of a new knitted and felted bunny that will feature along with it's pattern in the next issue of YARN Magazine (the newest and coolest knitting mag to come out of Australia). Barb over at YARNblog (editor and another Adelaide blogger YAH!) knitted and felted up these cuties for the girls to play with for the photoshoot. I can't wait to get my copy so that I can try one out (or five, they look like they could multiply easily) and if I can twist Barbs arm enough I think she might pop a few in the shop. If you are not here in Australia and want to get your hands on a copy (coming out for Easter) leave a comment or email me and I will pass on the details.... if you are here then go check out your good newsagent. The launch issue has so many fun and funky projects... especially the dye your own wool and the felted fun..very kid friendly... And I love this free clutch pattern on the YARNMagazine website (many more where that came from check them out!) so if that is anything to go by, the autumn issue will be a blast!

Thrifting jackpot

I have really been enjoying reading all the fantastic posts over at Whip up, isn't Kath clever, will she ever stop coming up with brilliant ideas for us to join in and create, not likely!

Lisa's recent posts regarding fabric and thrifting (not to mention those to die for log cabin pillows) have inspired me to finally photograph all my fabric and put the set up at Flickr. My long time passion for finding little gems at the local thrift stores means I have quite a few photos to take but I think getting them all organised will speed up my desision making, when deciding on what fabric to use next or what goes with what.

Button is back!

This is up on Whip up too, with all the relevent links WOW! double wow, I loove using up fabric scraps... now how can we do this?
