Elefont

I woke up this morning with a silly idea to make some 'font' fabric and use it to make an elephant.... it made ME giggle however no one else in my family really got the joke? I suppose you need to study typography for 4 years to find the humour in it. At uni we used helvetica so much that I almost thought there was no other font... for years I steered well away from it ... until today... meet Helveta The Elefont. She is on the extreme side of quirky, so much so that you can bearly see the elephant resemblance... but I had so much fun and I have been chuckling to myself all day. Of course I can already see that the letters would have looked better a bit bigger... geesh.

I used my trusty gocco machine to make the screen. It is the first time I have consciously tried to make a pattern that can be repeated....sounds simple but it took a few goes.

Moopy and I went to the Gallery of South Australia today, where she promptly pointed out all the paintings..... of course 90% of what we looked at were paintings, I didn't have the heart to tell her she was pointing out the obvious :) But seriously it was really interesting to hear what she had to say about the paintings... she interpreted a lot of things as water! and mummy!, oh and the Auguste Rodin sculptures of men were all daddy! (don't tell him that). She had a lot of fun sounding out cow noises when we saw them in paintings.... that started to get a little embarrassing once we got into the colonial section ... every second painting had cows. The security guard didn't seem to mind all the loud 'Mooooing' going on though.

Then we popped into the museum and looked at all the stuffed animals... she could of ran around in that room all day asking me what each animal was over and over and over again.... There was even a stuffed elephant.... we found this elephant too and couldn't resist taking him home with us to join Elefont.

Duuuuuuuuuuude that is AWEsome! I love the EleFont and would love to see more critters done in that material - looks fab. And that is so cute about Moopy and the Art Gallery and museum. Can't wait to take my own littlies there (in several years hehe).

it almost looks like you studied in my university =D
here helvetica is the queen too!
and it's very difficult to us to use another font after 4 years of constat use of helvetica :s

btw, love the elephant!
love elephants =)

That elefont is super! I love how you goccoed it. I sounds like you had a wonderful day with your daughter. I recently took my eldest son to the Melbourne Museum to see the Egytian Mummies and I loved explaining things to him and hearing his gorgeous 5 year old opinion.

Hi!

Can't believe it has taken so long for me to find Moopy and Me! :) I am in Melbourne too... and am also addicted to so many of the crafty blogs you link to... But very few of them are Melbourne based (I found you thru ohsewpretty)... so it's always nice to find a new, local, crafty buddy :) I love your Elefont too!!

I love Helveta the Elefont! As someone else who studied type and graphics in school, yes maybe she is a bit of an inside joke. But such a good one! Very cute. And your daughter sounds adorable. I enjoy reading your blog!

What a wonderful Elefont! Very witty, too.

Your elefont is so clever! What fun! I still need to break out my gocco - but I have so many other projects in line already...

I love Helveta! And, as a side note, I moo whenever I see cows, too (since they're my favorite animal and all). I keep hoping one will follow me home and I can keep it! Anyway, de-lurking now that I have a blog and saying hi!

Love the Elefont. I know Stephen Banham would too (despite the Helvetica): http://www.the-letterbox.com.au.

Just wanted to say that I bought two of your lovely cards at Readings. Really, really cute.

Brilliant and so cute! And the font gocco'd so nicely onto your fabric. I really want to experiment with doing a repeat pattern on fabric too.

Hee, hee... love the Elefont! That fabric looks great.
